FAQ's Regarding Liposuction

What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is surgical procedure for removing  extra fat from areas of body-like the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms,flanks. The procedure helps remove the accumulated  fat from these areas & give a more defined & shapely figure.

Is it Permanent or can I develop obesity again?
The advantage of this procedure is that the fat which takes months to get removed  can be removed in a short span of time. It must be emphasized that liposuction is neither a substitute for correct dietary habits and  regular exercise schedules. These have their own important role in control & managing weight loss.

How much hospitalization  is required?
It requires 1-2 days.Patient can be discharged the next day.

How long does the surgery take?
It depends upon the amount of fat to be removed,usually it takes 3-4 hrs for the surgery

What type of anesthesia is used for liposuction?
Usually a general anesthesia is used for liposuction, but in some cases, depending on the extent of the liposuction procedure, a general anesthesia may be used. Other times, some plastic surgeons use an epidural.

Are there a lot of scars after liposuction?
Scarring is very minimal after liposuction. Your plastic surgeon will make every effort to make the incisions in areas that will help hide the scars so that they will be virtually undetectable.

Is this surgery covered under medical insurance?
In majority of cases, liposuction is an elective cosmetic surgery and unfortunately not covered under medical insurance.
